  • Welcome To The Ballgame, Mr. Spleen!

    angel_stadium_-_wbc

Spleen is the major organ to produce Qi.  Qi is basically your energy.   Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a paradox, simple yet complicated.  Simple in that its is all about balance, yin and yang.  Complicated since TCM is a system that believes all organs work together for that balance for optimal health and emotional well being.

Teamwork is the name of the game and the spleen is the underrated organ.  It is the closer of a baseball team.  Everyone talks about the pitcher or the power hitter but the closer is the player that finishes a game when the team is winning. (more…)

  • How To Build a Superhuman (The ReVITALize Way)

    preview.jpg

Comic book movies are the latest trend nowadays.  From the recent Captain America: Civil War to the X-Men: Apocalypse movie, viewers are shown that superhero come in all size and shapes, with powers of different magnitude.  I believe we can all become our own superhero or superhuman with the right tools and training.

There are four steps during this process: rebalancing, reset, reconnect, and rebuild.  If you have not checked out this club’s about page I talk about the five pillars of success.  S.K.I.E.S. allows us dream big and to achieve this goal of becoming superhuman.

Rebalancing is defined as restoring something to be “balanced”.  The main focus of this first step is to make sure our “inner” and “outer” core are intact and thriving.  East meets west.  Eastern medicine has been around for thousands of years and is a system that manages our internal health (Qi) .  This paradigm believes our organs plays a VITAL role in our health: liver , spleen, lungs, heart and many more.  Western rehab medicine including fitness world’s has been popularizing the concept of our “core” muscles.  It is VITAL for strength and movement.  What many don’t realize is that our organs are susceptible to age related changes like muscles and joints and could benefit from hands on work.  Our organs are the “inner” core.  Superhuman have super-organs.

Reset is step two.  When we are having a bad experience, don’t you wish you can reset and start over? Guess what? Our body has this amazing ability to be reset, joint and/or muscle.  The reset, when effective, allows our body this “window of opportunity” to be more effective in our intentions like training to become a superhuman.

Reconnecting.  This comes in the form of kinesthetic awareness and beliefs.  I hinted in one of my Facebook posts that improving neck pain requires changing the perception of pain and the ability to move.  The main goal is to reconnect the brain and body.  Some can say mind and body.  This methodology is a powerful tool in combating chronic pain, our arch nemesis.  In the recent Batman vS Superman movie, Superman, a man of great power, had to overcome his own doubts in order to fight the bad guy.

Rebuild.  This is the fun part.  What powers do you have or want to get better?  Spidey sense?  Daredevil’s fighting skills?  Do you want to be Super grandma and be able to have more energy than your own grandchildren?  All-star pitcher with a wicked curveball?  This last step is where working hard and LIVING smart will pay off.  You can build the strength of Arnold Schwarzenegger and the finesse of Bruce Lee.  Dream big.  What one forget is that Superhuman do get banged up from time to time.  They don’t have winless record but what they do have is relentless desire to fight on.  So do not let life drag you down.  Superhuman will win in the end but with great powers come with great responsibility.  Are you ready to become a superhuman?

  • Catch-a-Lumbago, GO! (Part 1)

What Pokemon have you caught lately?  Lumbago?  Stenosis-kachu? Herniation? Sciaticasaurus?  If you have not noticed, these are not Pokemon creatures but low back pain (LBP) diagnosis but with a Pokemon twist to it.  You can say the company has been reVITALized by this classic game series.

I believe there are a few parallels between low back pain (LBP) care and the Pokemon empire.  Wait, hear me out!  I’m going to let you in on a secret about myself.  I used to play Pokemon a lot (please don’t hold that against me). Each creature is grouped into a certain element like water, fire, earth, etc.  The grouping by element allows the Pokemon to be more effective when fighting a weaker element.  Water Pokemon is better against fire Pokemon.  This concept sounds simple but when applied, allows the system to have an edge in managing back care.

  • Diagnosis: Knee Banger Part 2 (The Fix)

    Knee Sport Injury

So you fell on your knee and you want to know how to help yourself to become reVITALized.  Part 1 of this series helped you to understand how the knee works and the relationship to your knee pain. Today, I will write about self-treatment techniques.  Let’s get technical and dive into the medical science.

The pulley system was discussed in relationship to the patellofemoral (knee cap) joint.  Our main goal is to obtain normalcy of the pulley including the user itself.  If you analyze a pulley system, the condition of the groove and rope with its direction of pull impacts the mechanics of the pulley.  The size of the circular shape pulley and the strength of the user determines the effectiveness of the pulley.  I just laid out four variables to control, the condition, direction of pull, size of the pulley and the user.

  • Diagnosis: Marbles In My Foot

Today I evaluated a patient with a diagnosis of neuroma, Morton’s neuroma to be specific.  My experience today is very fitting for my first clinical post.  It demonstrates the unfortunate, but all too common situation and downfall of today’s medical system.  Sue is a middle age minority who came to me with her husband as the translator.  She complained of pain to the ball of her left foot between the second and third toe.  “Burning” and “feels like she is walking on marbles”.  I can walk for only a few feet and it gets worse as I walk more.  What she is telling me are classic symptoms of Morton’s neuroma — a thickening of nerve tissue usually brought upon through compression.

Morton’s neuroma is easy for anyone to confirm.   (more…)

  • ReVITALize Rehab Club

ReVITALize Rehab Club is a place dedicated to providing alternative options for people who are seeking an alternative to painkillers, medications, procedures, injections, and surgery.  The club is founded by Dr Ngo and his mission to changing the medical model by giving before taking…and to have fun while doing it.  We encourage and not discourage, hence our motto is to “Dream BIG! (to) Move BIG!”   Everyone has a chance of getting better regardless of the odds like age, genetics, or past history.

Vitality is a noun defined as the state of being strong and active; energy.  Whether you are a millennial or a baby boomer, society is moving at such a fast and demanding pace that our bodies are aging inorganically.  The constant rigors of life can test our body, mind, and soul where we begin to accept that our bodies are getting old.  Our main goal of ReVITALize is to help you to become yourself (again), this time you are in control of your pain!

As a father of a child with a chronic condition and someone who underwent unnecessary back surgery, Dr Ngo understands that part of getting good medical care needs to address the emotional component of being in pain or having chronic health conditions.  The vision of ReVITALize Rehab Club is to nurture everyone’s physical journey by providing high-quality specialist medical care while supporting their emotional aspect of not feeling well.  Dr Ngo felt confused, lost, frustrated and just wanted someone to listen when he was seeking for care for himself and for his family.  ReVITALize Rehab Club is built on the vision that members are unique and should not be treated like a medical account number.   We listen to everyone’s story.

ReVITALize Rehab Club is different and we are proud to be not your standard physical therapy or medical clinic.   We are a club that brings a supportive community.  We care and will be relentless in your care.  When the medical system does not provide hope, and people feel lost and easy to give-up, we take on these cases.  This is a reason why we have been praised for helping people who have gone through many medical testing and procedures with no sensible answers, leaving their doctors with no options but more medications.

Oh yea…Dr Ngo is one of the leading US (TOP 0.1%) Physical Therapist with a dual orthopedic and sports medicine specialist.  We are the experts in our field.
